On December 19, during the opening ceremony of the 2024 World Conference on Innovation and Development in the Display Industry in Chengdu, Sichuan, China, VISTAR marked a significant milestone by lighting up Chinese mainland’s first TFT-based Micro LED mass production line and unveiling its first mass-produced product. This milestone represents a breakthrough in Micro LED display technology and injects strong momentum into the emerging display industry.
Leading Display Technology Innovation: Chinese mainland’s First TFT-Based Micro LED Mass Production Line
Micro LED technology is renowned for its outstanding performance, long lifespan, and high energy efficiency, making it a potential next-generation display technology. However, due to its high technical complexity and expensive production costs, its commercialization has long been restricted. With the strong support of the Chengdu government and industry collaboration, VISTAR leveraged its deep expertise and innovation in display technology to establish Chinese mainland’s first TFT-based Micro LED mass production line in less than a year, with an investment of over ¥4.2 billion (approximately $550 million).
This production line incorporates automated smart processes for transfer, backplane, and module manufacturing, representing a significant leap forward in the commercialization of Micro LED technology. The project highlights VISTAR’s strong capabilities in both technological research and industrialization, as well as Chengdu’s strategic position as a hub for new display technologies.
Unveiling the New Generation 88-inch P0.5 TFT-Based Micro LED Splicing Screen
Following the lighting ceremony, VISTAR also launched the new generation 88-inch P0.5 TFT-based Micro LED splicing screen, which quickly became another highlight of the event. This cutting-edge product offers dazzling display effects and exceptional performance.
The Micro LED splicing screen sets a new benchmark in visual experience. It supports 10-bit color depth and can display up to 1.07 billion vibrant colors, 256 times more than traditional 8-bit screens, resulting in more vivid and realistic color representation. Powered by VISTAR’s proprietary Micro LED driver IC, the screen ensures smooth and eye-friendly visuals, providing a more comfortable viewing experience. The screen utilizes internationally leading 25-micron Micro LED chips, offering high technical value and significant potential for future cost optimization.
Additionally, through advanced mass transfer technology, VISTAR successfully assembled 33 million LEDs with a 99.995% yield. The screen features DCI-P3 99% wide color gamut, 2000 nits peak brightness, 26000:1 ultra-high contrast, and 3% ultra-low reflectivity, alongside next-generation Bin Technology 2.0 for impeccable screen uniformity and color consistency, providing an unprecedented visual experience. This product offers an ideal solution for the high-end commercial display market and various application scenarios.
Micro LED Industry Development Conference and the Establishment of the China Micro LED Strategic Alliance
To further promote the industrialization of Micro LED, VISTAR hosted a Micro LED Industry Development Conference during the event. The conference focused on the commercialization needs of the Micro LED industry, bringing together numerous enterprises, universities, and associations to explore collaborative development paths for technological innovation and market application.
At the conference, VISTAR also held a “Strategic Cooperation Bank Signing Ceremony” as part of the VISTAR Silver Enterprise Cooperation Financing program. This strategic cooperation with several financial institutions aims to provide comprehensive financial support, promote deep collaboration within the industry chain, and accelerate the large-scale development of Micro LED technology.
Subsequently, VISTAR officially announced the establishment of the China Micro LED Strategic Alliance in collaboration with 33 leading enterprises, associations, and universities. The alliance, centered on technological innovation, aims to build a shared ecosystem within the Micro LED industry, integrating key elements like industry, academia, research, application, and capital. This initiative will elevate China’s Micro LED display technology, accelerate its industrialization, and help China achieve a leadership breakthrough in the global market for new display technologies.
Future Outlook: From “Lighting Up” to “Commercialization,” Creating Infinite Possibilities
Today’s events mark an important historical turning point for Micro LED technology as it officially moves toward commercialization. This is not only a new beginning for VISTAR’s industrialization journey but also a critical moment for China’s display industry to embark on a new chapter.
VISTAR will continue to uphold its mission by driving technological innovation and market applications, working alongside upstream and downstream partners in the industry chain. Together, we will build a highly efficient, collaborative Micro LED ecosystem, ensuring “Made in China” brings exciting and expansive visual experiences to the world.
