On August 12, Seoul Semiconductor held a performance briefing at the Korea Securities Dealers Automated Quotations (KOSDAQ) and announced its plan to mass produce Micro LED technology.
Second Quarter Financial Performance
Seoul Semiconductor reported a preliminary consolidated sales revenue of 283 billion KRW (approximately $214 million) for the second quarter, with an operating profit of 4 billion KRW. This marks an 11% increase in sales compared to the same period last year.
Seoul Viosys, a subsidiary of Seoul Semiconductor, achieved a consolidated sales revenue of 188 billion KRW (around $143 million) with an operating profit of 6.3 billion KRW. Sales increased by 57% year-on-year, marking the first operating profit in ten quarters.

Mass Production Announcement
Seoul Viosys announced that it will commence mass production of Micro LED in the second half of this year, having already received validation from clients in two different countries. The primary application areas for this technology include commercial displays such as outdoor advertising and virtual studios.
Importance of WICOP Technology
CEO Lee Jeong-hoon of both Seoul Semiconductor and Seoul Viosys emphasized, “WICOP technology is essential for Micro LED. LEDs cannot be utilized without packaging due to the fragility of gallium nitride (GaN), but WICOP creates a robust structure that is both unencapsulated and heat-resistant.”
Inventory and Profitability Outlook
Over the past two years, the company has faced challenges with nearly 70 billion KRW in finished product inventory, leading to some losses. However, the recognition of WICOP technology has boosted sales, leading to profitability. Furthermore, the growth in sales from the high-margin automotive industry and continuous cost reduction efforts suggest that a comprehensive profit structure is beginning to take shape.
