XR Project “Infinite” to Launch AR Glasses in 2025
According to a recent South Korea’s Sedaily report, Samsung is actively pushing forward with its Infinite Extended Reality (XR) project. The company plans to unveil its first-ever augmented reality (AR) glasses at the Galaxy Unpacked event in January 2025 and officially release them in the third quarter of 2025.
Differentiation from Apple Vision Pro
This AR glasses model is positioned differently from Apple’s Vision Pro. Unlike Apple’s premium offering, Samsung’s glasses will follow a differentiated development path. The device is expected to resemble Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses, weighing around 50 grams, and designed to look like regular glasses or sunglasses.
Key Features: Payment, Gesture Recognition & Face ID
The glasses will come equipped with payment capabilities, gesture recognition, and facial recognition, making them highly functional for everyday use.
Trademark Applications Show Samsung’s Commitment to XR
In recent years, Samsung has been steadily investing in XR technology, applying for multiple XR-related trademarks. For example, in mid-2023, Samsung filed a trademark for “Samsung Glasses” with the UK Intellectual Property Office, followed by a trademark application for “Galaxy Glasses” with the US Patent and Trademark Office in early 2024.
Release and Production Plan
Samsung plans to showcase the AR glasses as a sample during the Galaxy S25 launch event in January 2025 in the U.S. Full-scale production is set to begin in the third quarter of 2025, with an estimated shipment of 20,000 to 30,000 units in both the third and fourth quarters of that year.
XR as the Next Growth Engine
Samsung’s Mobile Experience (MX) division, which also handles the sales of smartphones, wearables, and tablets, will oversee the XR business. The company is focusing its resources on XR development, believing that XR devices will become the next growth engine after its successful Galaxy smartphone line.
