Positive Outlook for Micro LED Industry
PlayNitride, a leading Micro LED manufacturer, held a press conference yesterday (15th) at the Taiwan Stock Exchange, where Chairman Lee Yunn-Li expressed a strong belief in the future of the Micro LED industry. He projected that sales from mass transfer equipment could account for 10-20% of this year’s revenue, indicating promising growth prospects.
Key Revenue Drivers in the Micro LED Market
Lee noted that many customers are preparing for shipments, with television sales emerging as a major revenue driver. The television market, in particular, is expected to experience a high compound annual growth rate (CAGR). Additional significant revenue sources include head-mounted displays, and shipments of smartwatches are also anticipated this year. Overall, Lee maintains confidence in the Micro LED industry, expecting the company’s revenue to grow substantially. PlayNitride is following its 2020-2023 revenue growth trajectory, with losses gradually decreasing as the company moves toward breaking even.
Competing with OLED in the Display Market
Lee acknowledged that Micro LED technology faces strong competition from OLED, which has made substantial progress, especially in terms of mass production in China and technological development in South Korea. However, he predicted that by 2030, Micro LED for automotive applications could achieve price parity with OLED. The company’s objective is to advance Micro LED technology in line with Moore’s Law, aiming to halve chip costs per unit area every 12-18 months, thereby making the technology more cost-effective.
Commitment to R&D and Future Growth
PlayNitride plans to continue investing heavily in research and development to stay at the forefront of next-generation process technologies and equipment development. This strategy is crucial to maintaining its leadership position in the rapidly evolving Micro LED industry.
