On May 14, Vuzix, a Micro LED AR glasses manufacturer, announced that it had signed a multi-phase development contract with U.S. GPS device maker Garmin to co-develop next-generation Micro LED nanoimprint waveguide display systems.
Garmin is a company focused on GPS technology in the automotive, aviation, marine, outdoor, and sports sectors, offering GPS navigation devices, smart wearables, and other electronic products. Vuzix, meanwhile, brings decades of experience in designing and developing AR technologies and optical products.

According to the contract, Vuzix will develop and supply Micro LED projection waveguide systems that will enhance Garmin’s GPS product line by significantly reducing costs, shrinking form factors, and saving internal space.
Vuzix stated that its technology would improve the display performance of Garmin’s GPS and AR devices. The ultimate goal of this collaboration is to design and produce microdisplay components that can be mass-produced and marketed to consumers.

Media outlets predict that Vuzix’s microdisplay technology will be integrated into Garmin’s vehicle and marine navigation AR GPS devices, as well as its wearable products.
