Following last week’s announcement of an expansion in its Micro-LED technology platform, Canadian Micro-LED developer VueReal has revealed new developments this week. The company will collaborate with its partner to advance the application of Micro-LED display technology in consumer products, including augmented reality (AR).
Advancing Micro-LED Technology with Strategic Partnerships
On July 24, VueReal announced a strategic partnership with the well-known display company RiTdisplay. Previously, VueReal and RiTdisplay had years of collaborative experience in automotive displays and lighting. Building on this, the two companies will work together to advance the application of Micro-LED technology in the consumer market and AR.
VueReal’s MicroSolid Printing™ technology platform will be combined with RiTdisplay’s advanced backplane process technology to create high-performance, cost-effective Micro-LED display products, offering high-end display solutions for various applications.
Expanding Partnerships to Broaden Micro-LED Applications
According to reports, VueReal has utilized its proprietary MicroSolid Printing™ technology platform to achieve efficient mass transfer of LED chips from wafers to backplanes, resulting in high-performance active matrix Micro-LED displays. VueReal is actively advancing its Micro-LED technology for use in wearables, televisions, IT applications, and AR in the consumer sector.
This year, VueReal has been active beyond deepening its partnership with RiTdisplay. VueReal has also established a strategic partnership with Japanese semiconductor equipment manufacturer Toray Engineering, combining MicroSolid Printing™ technology with Toray’s PL inspection tools to enhance Micro-LED inspection efficiency. Additionally, VueReal is collaborating with Germany’s Continental Group to develop Micro-LED automotive display products.
To expand Micro-LED technology into a broader range of applications, VueReal launched the new full-color AR microdisplay ColourFusion™ in May. This product improves the clarity and color accuracy standards of microdisplays and is applicable to various industries, including consumer electronics, automotive, aerospace, medical, and industrial sectors. In the same month, VueReal also introduced a low-cost, high-performance Micro-LED large display technology solution, QuantumVue™.
RiTdisplay’s Role in the Partnership and Industry Expansion
Established in 2000, RiTdisplay is a leading player in passive matrix organic light-emitting diodes (PMOLED), with a fully integrated PMOLED supply chain and the largest production capacity worldwide. The company provides products to numerous Tier 1 clients across various applications, including smart appliances, medical devices, wearables, and industrial instruments.
In response to a downturn in the display industry, RiTdisplay has expanded its technology portfolio to include other display technologies, such as AMOLED, TFT-LCD, e-Paper, Micro-LED, and Micro-OLED. The partnership with VueReal is set to accelerate RiTdisplay’s progress in the Micro-LED market.
RiTdisplay is also actively diversifying into the new energy sector, focusing on battery modules and energy storage systems, which accounted for about 70% of its revenue in 2023. Despite a slight decline in revenue to NT$2.682 billion (approximately $87 million) for the full year of 2023, the company reported first-quarter revenue of NT$555 million (around $18 million) in 2024, with a net profit of NT$453,000 after tax.
