Strategic Collaboration to Accelerate Micro LED AR Development
On March 14, Micro LED technology company Porotech announced a strategic partnership with General Interface Solution Ltd. (GIS), a Foxconn-invested touch integration company. This collaboration aims to expand the business of optical components and modules for microdisplays and enhance Porotech’s presence in the augmented reality (AR) sector.
Leveraging Expertise in Touch and Display Integration
GIS is known for its expertise in touch product solutions, providing integrated touch modules, display modules, and full lamination services. It operates research, development, and manufacturing facilities in Shenzhen, Chengdu, and Wuxi, China.
Advancing AR Products with Micro LED Technology
Porotech stated that this partnership will accelerate the development of consumer-grade AR products featuring the highest brightness, pixel density, the smallest size, and the lowest cost. By combining GIS’s proprietary optical technologies and modules with Porotech’s microdisplay platform technologies—PoroGaN® LED-on-Silicon (uLEDoS) and Dynamic Pixel Tuning® (DPT®)—the companies aim to successfully commercialize AR products such as smart glasses, head-up displays (HUDs), and head-mounted displays (HMDs).
Supporting Mass Production and Market Growth
Porotech has previously partnered with Foxconn and Powertech Technology Inc. (PSMC) for large-scale microdisplay production. The new collaboration with GIS, which brings advanced technological capabilities in optical components and display modules, is expected to propel the mass production of next-generation AR products.
Both companies see substantial growth potential in the AR microdisplay consumer market. The partnership is designed to blend high-precision manufacturing with superior product performance, driving the production of high-volume, cost-effective AR commercial products.
