Recently, the “Micro LED Display General Technical Specification – Medium and Large Size Display” group standard (hereinafter referred to as the “standard”) was officially released. The standard was organized by the Mini/Micro LED Display Industry Branch of the China Electronics Video Industry Association (CMMA) and led by Leyard, with nearly twenty companies, including BOE, TCL, Hisense, Absen, and Liantronics, participating in the drafting.

This standard is the industry’s first general technical specification for Micro LED displays. It is of significant guidance for further promoting the rapid application of Micro LED technology in the market, standardizing industry competition, improving product quality, and promoting the healthy development of the industry.
Filling the Domestic and International Gap:
There are currently no standards related to Micro LED displays domestically or internationally. The establishment of this standard will fill this gap.
First Clear Requirements for Micro LED Chips:
The standard stipulates that the size of Micro LED chips should be less than 100μm on any side. The chips should be flip-chip and should use a wire-free process.
Additionally, for the first time, the standard clarifies the requirements for Micro LED displays for medium and large-size products in terms of classification, technical requirements, quality inspection specifications, inspection rules, marking, packaging, transportation, and storage. This provides a standard basis for the research and development, manufacturing, production, and sales of Micro LED products.
Industry development follows standards. Defining Micro LED and clarifying related standards not only helps public understanding but also promotes the industry’s development towards the next generation of display technology, which is a basic requirement for promoting the transformation and upgrading of China’s LED display application industry.
The market practice has proven that the development of new technologies and products always relies on industry-leading companies for promotion.
Since 2020, when Leyard’s Wuxi Micro LED mass production base (Lijing) officially started production, Leyard has made active and effective explorations and practices in Micro LED technology and applications. Subsequently, with the deepening of Leyard’s cooperation with the industry, leading domestic and foreign companies such as Samsung and TCL have joined the race, and various technical problems of Micro LED technology have been solved one after another, and market attention has been continuously raised.
In April 2023, Leyard Group announced a breakthrough in the field of Micro LED – MIP display technology, NPQD® R1 series quantum dot Micro LED chips, and the world’s first QLED 4K direct display large screen. This effectively integrates upstream chips, midstream packaging, and downstream applications, once again clarifying the development path of the LED industry and leading and promoting the innovation and upgrading of the display industry.
Leyard’s cultivation of Micro LED is gradually being rewarded: in 2022, Leyard’s Micro LED display products achieved orders of 400 million yuan, an increase of 25% compared to 2021; in 2023, with the support of Micro LED technology and innovative business, Leyard’s revenue is expected to break through 10 billion yuan.
In the future, to welcome the opening of the large-scale application market in the Micro LED era, Leyard Group will continue to increase investment in Micro LED technology, adopt various methods such as independent research and development, cooperative research and development, and equity investment, continuously breakthrough technical difficulties, and lead the global display industry’s technological innovation and development.
