Overview of the Meeting
Recently, the Industrial Technology Department of Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs held the 8th final review meeting for the A+ Enterprise Innovation Research and Development Program. During the meeting, three major plans were approved, covering the textile, display technology, and smart healthcare sectors. These initiatives are expected to attract investments exceeding $330 million and create over $3.3 billion in output value.
Details of the Micro LED Project
Among these, the second proposal, led by Himax Technologies, collaborates with Prilit Optronics, Luxvisions, Unikorn, and CM Visual Technology Corporation to present the “3D 130-inch UHD Micro-LED Display Development Plan.” The total funding for this initiative is $30 million, with a government subsidy of about $5 million.
This plan will utilize the existing TFT LCD and LED production capacity in Taiwan to develop a 130-inch UHD Micro LED display that supports both 2D and 3D applications. The initiative aims to reduce the manufacturing costs of large displays, expanding Micro LED technology from the commercial market into consumer electronics. It is projected to generate an additional $330 million in investment and create an annual output value of $4.7 billion, injecting new vitality into the economy.
