Recently, Micro LED manufacturer PlayNitride and AR glasses producer Vuzix have announced updates on their latest Micro LED AR glasses technologies and products.
PlayNitride Commences Mass Production of Micro LED Micro Displays for AR
On April 8, international media reported that PlayNitride has successfully started mass production of its 0.49-inch Full HD (FHD) resolution Micro LED micro displays, which are primarily intended for use in AR glasses.
Last year, PlayNitride signed a strategic agreement with South Korean Micro Display technology firm Raontech. Under this agreement, PlayNitride will supply the first batch of backplane wafers for Micro LEDs. Raontech, utilizing ultra-low power, ultra-small silicon backplanes, and System-on-Chip (SoC) technology, will collaborate with PlayNitride’s Micro LED bonding, colorization, and modularization technologies to advance the core component market for next-generation XR devices.
PlayNitride has expressed optimism about the potential of Micro LEDs in AR, large-screen televisions, and automotive applications. The company continues to foster the Micro LED ecosystem, leveraging its technological advantages, including high uniformity 6-inch R/G/B LED wafers, high-yield R/G/B Micro LED chips with a wafer yield greater than 99%, LED wafer utilization exceeding 80%, and superior mass transfer and mass inspection technologies.
Vuzix Launches Online Sales for Micro LED AR Glasses
On April 8, U.S. AR glasses and technology supplier Vuzix announced the launch of online sales for its Micro LED AR glasses, the Vuzix Shield™, which was previously available only to developers and researchers.

The Vuzix Shield is a lightweight, stylish, and secure commercial AR glasses model featuring Z87.1 safety glass standards. It is based on ultra-thin binocular waveguide technology and includes Micro LED projection modules with a size of only 1 micron, offering high pixel density and clear image display.
Founded in 1997, Vuzix has introduced several smart glasses models using new display technologies such as OLED and Micro LED. In addition to the Vuzix Shield™, the company has also launched various Micro LED AR glasses products, including the Ultralite S, which features advanced waveguide devices and Micro LED displays. The Vuzix Incognito technology is employed to minimize and manage forward light leakage within the waveguides.

The Vuzix Ultralite stands out for its stylish, lightweight, all-in-one design, and extended battery life, incorporating a Micro LED and waveguide display solution.
