Lenovo has unveiled a concept laptop featuring a transparent Micro LED display at the 2024 Mobile World Congress (MWC). This ThinkBook Transparent Display Laptop reimagines traditional laptop design, transforming it into a device more suited for collaboration.
This concept laptop is equipped with a 17.3-inch transparent Micro LED display that allows users to see content on the other side of the screen, albeit with a resolution of only 720P. This design enables virtual creations to be overlaid onto the real world, essentially functioning as a transparent whiteboard.
Micro LED displays are known for their stunning colors and contrast, with brightness levels comparable to OLED screens. The ThinkBook’s display boasts a brightness of up to 1000 nits, ensuring usability both indoors and outdoors. While there are concerns regarding privacy, Lenovo indicated during the launch that the future iteration of the display will feature adjustable transparency to provide either more privacy or greater transparency for interacting with objects in the real world.
Another key element of this laptop’s design is the keyboard—or rather, the absence of one. This concept laptop replaces the physical keyboard with a touchscreen keyboard, which can switch to a drawing pad compatible with a stylus.
This design may not appeal to everyone, but for creative individuals who wish to see and share their digital creations in real time against the backdrop of the real world, it could represent the future of technology.
