    The potential applications of LED in areas like backlighting and displays are vast, and with the development of new display technologies like Micro LED and Mini LED, the role of LED in these fields is set to expand further. Recently, the 10th International Forum On Wide Bandgap Semiconductors & 21st China International Forum On Solid State Lighting (IFWS&SSLCHINA2024) was held in Suzhou, China.

    Event Overview

    During the event, the “Mini/Micro-LED Technology Industrial Application Summit,” co-organized by the National Center for Innovation of Third-Generation Semiconductor Technology (Suzhou), Beijing Naura Microelectronics Equipment Co., Ltd., Suzhou STR Software Technology Co. Ltd., and INNOSHINE Semiconductor Technology Co., Ltd., featured distinguished speakers who discussed the latest trends in the Mini/Micro-LED technology industry. Notable speakers included Mr. Lv Zhiqiang, Vice General Manager of PlayNitride Technology (Taiwan), Mr. Xi Guangyi, Chairman and CEO of INNOSHINE Semiconductor Technology Co., Ltd., Prof. Huang Kai, Associate Dean and Professor at Xiamen University, Mr. Zhuang Yongzhang, Founder and CEO of RaySolve Optoelectronics (Suzhou) Co., Ltd., Mr. Liu Chuanbiao, General Manager of HongLi Display Electronics Co., Ltd. (a wholly owned subsidiary of HongLiZhiHui), Mr. Cao Xuan, Deputy General Manager and CTO of VISTAR Optoelectronics Co., Ltd., Mr. Jiang Zhenyu, Chairman of Qiushui Semiconductor Technology Co., Ltd., Mr. Liu Guoxu, CTO and Executive Vice President of ShineOn, Dr. Luo Gang, Researcher at the Materials Science Gusu Laboratory and Founder of Suzhou ndnano Micro and Nano Technology Co., Ltd., and Mr. Mu Fengwen, Chairman and General Manager of Isabers Materials.

    Guest Speakers and Insights

    Mr. Lv Zhiqiang, Vice General Manager of PlayNitride Technology (Taiwan) delivered a presentation on the “MicroLED Mass Production Strategy,” highlighting the importance of capitalizing on the unique characteristics of MicroLED to drive market expansion and industrial growth. He emphasized that the key to accelerating MicroLED production is overcoming the challenges associated with commercialization.


     Mr. Xi Guangyi, Chairman and CEO of INNOSHINE Semiconductor Technology Co., Ltd., discussed the opportunities and challenges in the Micro-LED display sector. He noted that with technological breakthroughs and cost reductions, the market for MicroLED in commercial displays—including conference rooms, home theaters, and XR virtual shooting—is poised for significant growth.


    Prof. Huang Kai, Associate Dean and Professor at Xiamen University, shared the latest advancements in Micro-LED chip and integration technologies. He presented the development of the world’s highest pixel density TFT-based Micro-LED high-resolution full-color display (403 PPI).


    Mr. Zhuang Yongzhang, Founder and CEO of RaySolve Optoelectronics (Suzhou) Co., Ltd., presented on the use of Quantum Dot Lithography technology in creating ultra-compact Micro-LED displays. He discussed how this technology is crucial in reducing the size and weight of AR glasses, a growing market for Micro-LED technology.


    Mr. Liu Chuanbiao, General Manager of HongLi Display Electronics Co., Ltd. (a wholly owned subsidiary of HongLiZhiHui), spoke about the innovation in MLED technology for direct-view and backlighting applications in the automotive sector. He projected that the Mini-LED TV market would continue to grow rapidly due to government policies and the demand for high-quality displays in VR applications.


    Mr. Cao Xuan, Deputy General Manager and CTO of VISTAR Optoelectronics Co., Ltd., shared insights into the opportunities and challenges in TFT-based Micro-LED tiled displays. His report focused on overcoming issues like image quality, seamless stitching, and high costs to create large-scale display solutions for command and control centers, conferences, and advertising.


    One of the standout presentations came from Mr. Jiang Zhenyu, Chairman of Qiushui Semiconductor Technology Co., Ltd., who discussed the breakthroughs in hybrid bonding technology for Micro-LED chips, which is considered the ideal solution for achieving high yield and efficiency in the Micro-LED display industry.


    Additionally, Mr. Liu Guoxu, CTO and Executive Vice President of Beijing ShineOn Technology Co., Ltd., highlighted the advances in CSP chip-level packaging for Mini-LED backlighting applications. His report emphasized how Mini-LED backlighting is enhancing LCD display quality and making Mini-LED more competitive against OLED displays in high-end TVs, gaming monitors, and automotive displays.


    Dr. Luo Gang, Researcher at the Materials Science Gusu Laboratory and Founder of Suzhou ndnano Micro and Nano Technology Co., Ltd., delivered a presentation on the role of nano-imprint technology in the industrialization of Micro-LED. He discussed the advantages of this technology in manufacturing large-area micro-patterns, which are crucial for producing high-efficiency LEDs with superior light-emitting properties.


    Mr. Mu Fengwen, Chairman and General Manager of Isabers Materials, concluded the summit with a talk on advanced semiconductor bonding technologies for Micro-LED packaging, an area that is critical to achieving integration and miniaturization in Micro-LED displays.

    Conclusion

    The IFWS&SSLCHINA2024 conference was an invaluable opportunity for industry leaders and researchers to come together and share the latest advancements in Micro-LED and Mini-LED technologies. With the rapid growth of these technologies, the display industry is set to see revolutionary changes in the years to come.
