On September 28, reports surfaced suggesting that Garmin may be one of the first companies to introduce a Micro LED-powered smartwatch, following Apple’s decision to abandon its own Micro LED watch project.
According to a report from MicroLED-info, AUO (AU Optronics) is preparing to supply wearable Micro LED panels to smartwatch manufacturers, with Garmin identified as one of the first customers.
Back in May, Garmin announced a partnership with Vuzix to work on a “multi-phase development contract” aimed at creating a next-generation display system based on nano-imprinted waveguides.
Micro LED technology has gained attention for its high brightness, low power consumption, and long lifespan, though it has yet to be widely adopted in smartwatches. In March of this year, Mark Gurman reported that Apple had scrapped its plans to develop Micro LED screens for the Apple Watch.
