On January 10, 2025, the Nanchang Environmental Protection Bureau published a notice regarding the environmental impact report for the intelligent equipment upgrade project of Jiangxi Changelight Co., Ltd. This project marks a significant step forward for the company’s LED Mini chip production.
Project Details
The notice indicates that the total investment for the project is ¥215.57 million (approximately $31.2 million). This investment will be used to upgrade the existing production facilities at Jiangxi Changelight Co., Ltd., located in Nanchang, Jiangxi, China.
The main construction activities include upgrading the existing production workshop, purchasing cleaning equipment, vapor deposition equipment, grinding equipment, cutting equipment, etching equipment, inspection equipment, sorting equipment, point testing equipment, environmental protection equipment, power equipment, and other machinery. The project will carry out comprehensive technological upgrades and updates to establish a smart production line for 6000kk sets of new-type display LED mini chips, achieving digitization of production operations, intelligent management platforms, and practical decision-making applications.
The new production line will have a capacity to produce 6,000K units of new-type LED Mini chips per year. This will include an additional 528,000 blue and green chips (equivalent to 2-inch wafers) and 960,000 red and yellow chips (equivalent to 2-inch wafers). The goal is to realize digitized production operations, an intelligent management platform, and a real-world decision-making application system to improve overall productivity and efficiency.
About Jiangxi Changelight Co., Ltd.
Jiangxi Changelight Co., Ltd., established in July 2017, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Xiamen Changelight Co., Ltd. established in Nanchang. With a total investment of ¥5 billion and 98.84 acres of land, the project plans to build the largest blue and green chip production base in Asia. The first-phase investment is ¥2.5 billion, with a construction period of 10 months. The project will be completed and put into operation in October 2018, realizing a monthly output of 700,000 blue and green epitaxial chips with an annual output value of ¥2 billion.
Currently, the company is planning to build the largest and most modernized semiconductor chip manufacturing base in Asia in the second half of 2018.
As the upstream leading chip enterprise, Changelight will cooperate with a series of well-known manufacturers of upper, middle, and lower photoelectric products, such as sapphire manufacturing, back channel packaging, and application, with complementary advantages and strong cooperation. The whole industrial chain landmark of LED industry production, research and development, sales, and other integration will be built to create a new title of “Optical Valley Nanchang“.
Project Progress and Future Expansion
In addition to this project, Hisense Changelight Jiangxi Semiconductor Base is scheduled to go into production in 2024, marking another important milestone for the company. This base will mainly produce RGB display red chips, Mini LED, and high-end LED products, continuing to enhance Changelight’s position in the LED Mini chip and semiconductor industries.
