Overview of the Project
According to a report from Nanchang Broadcasting and Television Station in July, the Nanchang Municipal Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference organized a visit to advanced manufacturing projects in Nanchang, including the ChangeLight Semiconductor Base Project. The project has introduced 60 MOCVD systems and associated equipment, with 30 of these systems already relocated. Once fully operational, the project is expected to achieve an annual production capacity of 8.118 million gallium arsenide epitaxial wafers.
Project Investment and Production Capacity
The ChangeLight Semiconductor Base Project involves a total investment of 1 billion yuan and is set to officially launch by the end of December 2023. The factory renovation and upgrades have been completed, with a total of 60 MOCVD systems introduced. Upon full production, the project is projected to yield an annual capacity of 8.118 million gallium arsenide epitaxial wafers, with the total capacity at the Nanchang base expected to reach approximately 23 million wafers, generating over 1.1 billion yuan in sales revenue. According to the project agreement, this facility will produce RGB display red light chips, Mini LEDs, and other related products, targeting a monthly production capacity of 500,000 wafers (equivalent to 2-inch wafers). After reaching full production, the project is anticipated to generate a cumulative industrial revenue of around 2 billion yuan over three years.

Historical Context
Looking back at the project’s history, on October 24, 2023, the Nanchang New District Government signed a cooperation agreement with Xiamen ChangeLight Co., Ltd. for the ChangeLight Semiconductor Base Project, officially settled in the New District. The project plans to utilize the existing factory and land resources of ChangeLight Co., Ltd. and introduce internationally leading MOCVD production equipment for manufacturing RGB display red light chips, Mini LEDs, gallium arsenide solar cells, and other high-end LED products, aiming for a monthly production capacity of 500,000 wafers (equivalent to 2-inch wafers). Once fully operational, the project is expected to generate a cumulative industrial revenue of around 2 billion yuan and a total tax contribution of about 100 million yuan. The project’s launch ceremony occurred on December 28, 2023, at ChangeLight.
