Micro LED: The Key Technology for Next-Generation Displays
Micro LED display technology has long been regarded as a breakthrough innovation in the display industry due to its high brightness, superior contrast, long lifespan, low power consumption, and ultra-high resolution. However, the large-scale adoption of this technology has been severely limited by manufacturing difficulties and low production yields.
At the Cdhti Electronics Xinxian Smart Manufacturing Research and Development Park, HUANCHENG Intelligent Equipment (Chengdu) Co., Ltd. has been actively addressing the core challenge of Micro LED chip mass transfer technology. The company has achieved significant breakthroughs in this field and recently delivered its first Fully Automated Micro LED Mass Transfer Bonding Machine, injecting strong momentum into the Micro LED display industry’s rapid development.
HUANCHENG: Innovating for the Future
Founded in 2022, HUANCHENG Intelligent Equipment (Chengdu) Co., Ltd. specializes in the development, production, and sales of intelligent equipment for the semiconductor and display panel industries. The company has established itself as a national high-tech enterprise with full in-house R&D and manufacturing capabilities. Since its inception, it has secured over 20 patents, including national invention patents and utility model patents. Its core products, such as semiconductor wafer bonding equipment and automated semiconductor manufacturing solutions, have gained strong recognition from leading display manufacturers, including BOE, TCL CSOT, and TIANMA.
Overcoming the Challenges of Micro LED Mass Transfer
While Micro LED technology offers unparalleled performance, the challenge lies in precisely transferring millions of micron-sized LED chips onto target substrates—a process as complex as constructing a skyscraper on grains of sand. The industry has struggled with low yield rates and inconsistent production quality, hindering large-scale commercialization.
As a long-term partner of leading display manufacturers like BOE, HUANCHENG has been at the forefront of tackling this technical bottleneck. After intensive R&D efforts, the company successfully developed its fully automated Micro LED mass transfer bonding machine, which was officially delivered in October 2024. According to HUANCHENG’s General Manager Liu Lin, this cutting-edge equipment achieves world-class precision, efficiency, and stability in the transfer process.

“The Micro LED wafer bonding process demands exceptional precision in pressure distribution, temperature uniformity, and crystallization quality. Even the slightest deviation can cause material deformation, leading to complete failure,” Liu Lin explained.
To address these challenges, HUANCHENG spent 18 months refining the process, incorporating advanced thermal compression bonding technology and a high-precision alignment system. This innovation enables rapid and accurate bonding of Micro LED wafers while ensuring minimal material loss.
The newly developed bonding machine can increase product yield by 40% to 50%, significantly enhancing the efficiency and quality of Micro LED chip production, while simultaneously reducing manufacturing costs.
“Beyond its state-of-the-art manufacturing technology, this equipment also features an intelligent operation system and a comprehensive fault diagnostics mechanism, allowing for fully automated production and remote monitoring,” Liu Lin added.
Recognizing HUANCHENG’s technological breakthroughs, leading Micro LED industry player VISTAR has already initiated discussions with the company, laying the groundwork for potential future collaborations.
Expanding into 3D Packaging and Bonding Equipment
In addition to Micro LED manufacturing, semiconductor bonding technology plays a critical role in integrating different materials, functionalities, and chip sizes into single devices or systems. Given its broad applications and high growth potential, HUANCHENG has been strategically expanding its R&D efforts beyond Micro LED.
“As semiconductor scaling approaches physical limits, the industry is shifting toward 3D packaging to enhance chip performance. Semiconductor bonding is at the heart of 3D packaging technology, making it a key growth area,” Liu Lin stated.
With AI, big data, and 5G communications driving demand for higher-performance chips, the importance of semiconductor bonding technology is only expected to grow. HUANCHENG is currently accelerating the development of advanced bonding solutions and aims to deliver its first 8-inch and larger 3D packaging bonding equipment by 2027, positioning itself as a leading domestic player in this field.
As the company ramps up R&D, it has also attracted strong interest from investors. In January 2025, HUANCHENG secured an A-round investment from the Chengdu Tech Transfer Fund, further accelerating its expansion and innovation.
Conclusion
With significant breakthroughs in Micro LED mass transfer technology, HUANCHENG is paving the way for wider adoption of next-generation displays. At the same time, its strategic expansion into 3D packaging solutions positions it at the forefront of semiconductor innovation. As the industry embraces new display and semiconductor technologies, HUANCHENG’s continuous advancements will be crucial in shaping the future of high-performance electronics.
